There is a fine line between the various categories, in reality, they overlap. Photojournalistic is broadly defined as recording an event while it is happening and capturing the various elements of it. Photojournalistic is not a documentary. Portraits are posed photographs of the subjects involved in an event. Artistic photography is when the photographer, developer, or editor has changed the image in some manner to give it another look. It is also when mechanical tricks are applied or shot at an unusual angle. Each photographer has a different interpretation of the categories and a different aesthetic for applying photographic techniques.
